Kurinomi, market and goofing around

Yesterday (Friday) I decided that it would be nice for Ben and I to have a little alone time. I had the teenage girl next door come over to watch the babies and I picked Ben up from school and took him for ice cream and to the 100 yen store (dollar store). It gave me an opportunity to take some pictures of his class and the school ground. On Monday I am taking him to school because we are getting our flu shots that morning, I hope to see the indoor swimming pool then! He is really enjoying school and they seem to love him there! He acted a bit shy when I got there but I'm sure he is fine when I am not around. They have so many American kids going there now that they have a long waiting list!

Notice his water jug around his neck. Also notice the boy next to him. He has on his swim cap and speedo because he is getting ready to go to private after school swim lessons.

Ben with his teachers. They were embarrassed to get their picture taken so they made some of the kids get in the picture with them. Notice the tatami mats on the side. These are straw mats that are a very common type of flooring in Japanese homes.

Ben with his nap mat. We had to bring it home for the weekend and wash it. He has been taking a good nap now at school. Almost too good, he's not tired at night!

Where they leave their "outside" shoes. Most days he doesn't have to wear his "inside" shoes because he wears socks. He knew exactly where to go for his things. He found his cubby for his red hat amongst all of the other red hats. Either he has figured out his name in Japanese or he has just memorized his place.

The entrance to the office and front hallway - his classroom is on the right.

The entrance to his classroom. They have tons of fish tanks in the front hallway.

The school yard. The pool is somewhere on the right hand side.

One of the play structures.

The front gate - you have to ring a buzzer to be let in.

Ben pretending to be a tiger - notice his new NASCAR shirt. He wore it Friday night right after he got it in the mail and I had to wash it so he could wear it Saturday morning.

Yes Ben picked out his outfit. Nascar shirt, navy blue bear socks and black and red shoes. He looked "cool."

Hario's version of a market. They have a few tents set up with people selling garage sale type things and then several tents with produce. I picked up a few things but not much.

Ben and Michaela with their painted pumpkins from the commissary. Michaela is our next door neighbor and Ben treats her like she is his big sister.

Babies in their bones again.
Nate and Mommy. One of the few times a baby gets alone time with mommy.

Ben being Ben...
